ATC - ARTIST TRADING CARDS
(Shakti)
A dedication to ART in all its forms is the creative oven of the EARTH SANCTUARY. Human beings need art, like they need air to breathe, and food. Art is what makes us human. By opening up to our creative potential, we become aware of the existence of the soul, deep inside, behind the clouds that cover its radiant existence. At the moment, we run an ATC (Artist Trading Cards) group at Yahoo: EuropeanATCs.
We also run a permanent workshop (every Sunday)of Altered Art on the Sanctuary´s premises : El Taller METÁFORA.
Artist Trading Cards are small art jewels that artists exchange by snail mail - or in face to face ATC Meetings (which we hope to be able to start organizing here in Spain, for European traders, by Easter 2007).

We have been learning lots of stuff through the different themes that come up in the group we have created online; we´ve done about everything from Continents to Beaches to Astrology to Celtic myths to Birds to Colours to Trees to Peace to Abundance to Seasons to Things With Wings (no, not birds, think again!)...The riches are unending.
Awesome collections are created rapidly as enveloppes (sometimes decorated too!)fly to and fro over the borders of European countries.
ATCs, as they are called, are never sold, only traded. They are the size of football cards that kids exchange. There´s only this one rule, same size for all. Otherwise, anything goes, and the more crazy the more interesting!...
Our own style has evolved a lot through the last months, from simple collage cards at the beginning two years back, to fluff and feathers and bubble wrap, beads and threads sewn onto our ATCs cards. Mika´s Heavy Metal serie has a fame of its own, lol.

*WHAT is an "altered book"? ------------------------------- Well, it is described something like this : "You take any old book and you change it. End of story." :-) *WHY do "altered books"? ------------------------------ For fun. To tap and develop one´s creativity. To tell oneself a story. To explore one´s creative possibilities. To communicate. To stretch, to make, to play, to pass the time, to learn, to affirm oneself, anything goes. Every artist has a different story, a different angle, and a different technique. *HOW to do an altered book ----------------------------- There is only one rule : NO RULE! Just do it! Have fun, be creative, jump over your limitations, you´ll learn. Sharing one´s work with other altered books artists helps a lot. |
